Ceres was considered a planet for 50 years and Pluto for 80 years. Both are now removed from the list of planets. Just remember the poor children who had to memorize the names of planets during those years. This is another example that we should put less emphasis in teaching the "facts" of science but instead teach students to think through the process of science.
